    AmeriCorps Community Care Events

AmeriCorps Community Care members provide direct service and capacity-building to address unmet community needs. Members may receive a monthly living stipend and an education award at the successful completion of their service term.  

 Service terms are for one year of service which usually begins in September and ends on August 31st and will consists of 1700 hours of direct service time.

 Members are placed in non-profits, local departments of social services and community action agencies, to contribute to the social services system strategic vision to promote self-sufficiency for low-income families, increase and improve access to high quality services and support, and mobilize other volunteers in the community.

To become an AmeriCorps Community Care member you must:

  • Reside in Virginia as a U.S. Citizen, national or lawful permanent resident alien;
  • be at least 18 years old; 
  • be able to serve full-time (1700 hours) over an twelve month period.

Benefits of Joining AmeriCorps

  • For twelve months of full-time service, members can receive an education award to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back student loans.
  • AmeriCorps members receive a modest annual living allowance.
  • Members receive health insurance, training, and student loan postponement.
  • Those members who serve in Virginia are also eligible for Workers' Compensation.
